SiME Congress: Science and Industry on the Road to Widespread Digitalization

The SiME Congress is dedicated to the integration of autonomous sensor systems into everyday machine elements such as screws, bearings, seals, and shafts – without affecting their design. The first edition of this industry gathering took place 19 - 20 September, 2024 at the Technical University of Munich in Garching near Munich, Germany. The goal of the event was to bring digitalization into the heart of machinery and to promote the widespread digitalization of technical systems.

Both days of the conference were moderated by renowned professors such as Prof. Dr.-Ing. Georg Jacobs (RWTH Aachen) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Berthold Schlecht (TU Dresden) and featured a wide range of scientific presentations from leading research institutes as well as contributions from industry. Participants received a comprehensive overview of current developments in the field of sensor-integrated machines, including:

  • Research results from the DFG SPP 2305 priority program
  • Sensor-integrated screws, feather keys, bearings, and seals
  • Innovative approaches for gas foil bearings and PVD sensors

Between presentations, participants could see live demonstrations from the SPP program and experience the current state of technology first hand. The evening event gave attendees an opportunity to share personal experiences and make new contacts over Bavarian food and beer. Another highlight was an exclusive tour of the test facilities at the Technical University of Munich Gear Research Center (FZG).

The SiME Congress provided an impressive demonstration of onsite machine monitoring and intelligent networking of processes, a true milestone on the road to digital transformation.

Save the Date: The next round of insights into the latest research results and developments from the SPP 2305 priority program will be presented on 15 - 16 September, 2026 in Darmstadt, Germany. Stay tuned!
